Hungry Bins teaching our kids about the environment

In 2017 Plant to Plate Aotearoa received a grant from Fonterra Grassroots fund. With this money we purchased 10 Hungry Bin Worm Farms which we have been setting up at schools around the Manawatu. This worm farm are a great easy way to introduce worm farming to schools and also help them with to reduce their waste… Worms love the left over healthy food from kids lunch box – banana skins are dealt quickly and easily by the worm and then the castings can be used on the school vegetable gardens as plant food. Best kind of recycling out there!

Have a look at the photos of the kids trying to construct the Hungry Bins – We are teaching them team work and problem solving as well as gardening 🙂
