We had a wonderful session with the cool kids from Room 1 at Cloverlea School. As always, the gardens are tidy and ready for us and I was pleased we were able to get out into the garden and do some planting. It’s always tricky to do this at this time of the year! with the first group we managed to get some food into the soil so the wee seedlings we planted had plenty to help them grow big and strong.
In the kitchen there was loads of activity and lots of yummy smells wafting around. I was super pleased to see everyone working together to prepare such a yummy lunch. I really enjoy getting a chance to sit with everyone to share such fantastic kai!
I hope you try your favourite recipe at home with your family… imagine how impressed they would be if you cooked them up a creamy potato bake for dinner one night! Yum!
It was another great morning for myself and all the Plant to Plate Volunteers, we hope that you had just as much fun as we did room 1.
Until next time, happy gardening and cooking my friends. Jacinda.
GARDENING TIP OF THE DAY…
Potatoes are an easy vegetable for beginners and they are a fantastic first crop in new soil as the roots and tubers break it up and make it easier to dig in the future. July/August is a good time to start sprouting your potatoes ready for planting in September. It’s a great activity for kids to do!
